It spans the fourteenth century to the present day with European paintings ranging from the Middle Ages to the present, sculptures from the sixteenth to the twenty-first centuries, and outstanding examples of international media art. One highlight of the collection is the Department of Prints and Drawings, which is one of the most important assemblages of graphic works in Europe, containing over 220,000 drawings and prints.
